As part of its Alaska Destruction Plan, the Trump administration traded away wilderness so a corporation could pave over a wildlife refuge.

This illegal, dangerous move could desecrate the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, home to hundreds of species and a feeding and resting spot for millions of birds.

The Center for Biological Diversity sued to block it.

Despite being the smallest of Alaska's wildlife refuges, Izembek plays an outsized role for wildlife. It's a globally important stopover for vast numbers of migratory birds, from Pacific black brant to emperor geese and endangered Steller's eiders.

It's also home to grizzly bears, caribou, salmon, sea otters, and sea lions.

Past administrations have decided to keep bulldozers out of Izembek, but not Trump. His administration wants to put a road right through the heart of the refuge, forever destroying an irreplaceable wilderness.

Trading away land set aside for a refuge so a corporation can build a road in it flies in the face of conservation — and the law.

This exchange also sets a dangerous precedent that puts all of Alaska's 104 million acres of protected wildlands at risk.

So the Center went to court to block it. We're doing all we can to keep Alaska, public lands, and imperiled wildlife safe. The fights we're facing now will reverberate for generations to come.
