John,

If it sounds like we’re repeating ourselves, it’s because we are.

It’s been four months and we’re still asking the Senate to protect nurses working on the frontlines of this pandemic – over 90% of whom are women. Now that the Senate is officially back in session this week, we’re putting our foot down and demanding action once and for all.

This morning, nurses with National Nurses United called on the Senate to finally protect frontline health care workers by laying 164 pairs of shoes in front of the Capitol – each pair representing a nurse who has lost their life to COVID-19 in the U.S. (in Canada, not one RN has died from COVID-19).

There are 12 Republican senators who will decide the fate for our nurses and what the inside of our hospitals look like – whether there is enough PPE and whether hospitals are required to provide necessary protections. That’s why we need your help to send a strong message to protect nurses and health care workers now.

Please stand with nurses and add your name to our petition before we deliver the signatures to Senate offices next week. Nurses are counting on us for support so they can care for us during this pandemic.

Pass the HEROES Act »

The House passed the Heroes Act months ago, which includes the necessary measures that nurses desperately need right now.

We need your help to put the pressure on the key GOP senators who will decide the fate of this bill and protection for nurses. Those senators are Sens. McConnell (KY), Alexander (TN), Collins (ME), Romney (UT), Grassley (IA), Hawley (MO), Murkowski (AK), Graham (SC), Gardner (CO), Portman (OH), Rubio (FL), and Cornyn (TX).

Nurses can’t wait much longer. New COVID hotspots are emerging across the country, hospitalizations have reached an all-time high, and to make matters worse — Republicans are politicizing even the most basic pandemic safety measures. Our nurses are struggling to respond to this nationwide crisis, and this pandemic is only getting worse.

That means nurses and patients will be in even more danger the longer we go on without these protections. The Senate must:

  1. Enact an emergency temporary standard from the OHSA, which would make providing cloth masks and reused PPE to nurses working in hospitals not allowed.
  2. Require this administration to utilize the Defense Production Act to meet the PPE needs, as well as creating new systems and a new federal coordinator position for the reporting, transparency, and coordination of the PPE supply chain.

Will you stand with nurses and make sure we get the critical Senate votes we need to pass the HEROES Act? Add your name now to the petition we’re sending to Sens. McConnell (KY), Alexander (TN), Collins (ME), Romney (UT), Grassley (IA), Hawley (MO), Murkowski (AK), Graham (SC), Gardner (CO), Portman (OH), Rubio (FL), Cornyn (TX).

In solidarity,
