Free Speech For People
John,
Every day, we are watching our democratic norms challenged under the Trump administration. From the early days of his candidacy, Trump has routinely ignored our country's laws, institutions, and values, and he has even questioned the legitimacy of election results [ [link removed] ].
Throughout American history, when a president has lost re-election, he has always stepped down willingly. Accepting the will of the people, and allowing a peaceful transition of power, is a hallmark of American democracy. But as we head toward November, we have to ask ourselves: If Trump loses, would it really be surprising if he cried "rigged" election?
The answer is clear -- we need to prepare for a scenario in which Trump refuses to accept the results of November's election.
*That's why Free Speech For People is joining Indivisible and Stand Up America to introduce Protect the Results: a joint project that will provide the infrastructure for mobilizing Americans should that nightmare scenario come to pass. We need you with us, John.*
*I PLEDGE TO PROTECT THE RESULTS* [ [link removed] ]
We need our movement ready to mobilize safely if Trump rejects the results of the election, especially given the added threat that the COVID-19 pandemic poses to traditional in-person voting this year.
*Trump has already denounced mail-in voting as fraudulent and **recently refused to say whether he would accept an electoral loss in November* [ [link removed] ]*.* His recent willingness to use force against civilians peacefully exercising their First Amendment right to protest demonstrates there's no line he won't cross. It's more important than ever that we protect the valid results of the election.
We've held elections during the Civil War, in World War I, in World War II, during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, and we will still hold an election on November 3. The results of this election will determine the future of our country, and the results must be respected as well as protected.
*Join us and pledge to take action if Trump refuses to accept the results. Because the bottom line has to be clear: If Trump loses the next election, he must accept those results. Our democracy depends on it.* [ [link removed] ]
