Dear John,

As Christmas approaches, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you the very best for the festive season and the prospects of a bright New Year.

Every summer we have thousands of new and returning holidaymakers arriving in the Coromandel for their summer holiday, and that's proof beyond doubt that there's no better place to be than right here. Whether it’s relaxing the days away at our world-class beaches, hiking through our incredible natural environment, or getting out on the cycle trails, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The end of the year is also a great chance to kick back, reflect on the last twelve months, and recharge the batteries for 2026.

As I always do, I'm looking forward to getting out and about over the summer and taking in as much of our beautiful region as I can. If you see me around, don’t hesitate to come over for a chat. I really enjoy hearing from people who are passionate about our region and want to make it even better.

Stay safe and enjoy the festive season.

SCOTT'S NEWS

To wrap up the year, here’s a few things that have been happening down in Wellington and around the electorate over the last couple of months.

I was thrilled to see the project to replace Tairua’s Pepe Stream Bridge with a modern, two-lane bridge continues to progress. NZTA has assigned a contractor, with the new bridge set to be ready and open for traffic by December 2027.

The community has been calling for a safer, more reliable bridge for many years, and when it’s completed it will significantly improve the journey for locals, make holiday travel smoother for visitors, and strengthen the Coromandel’s economic future.

As the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, I announced the Government is introducing new “safe harbour” protections to help banks, telcos and digital platforms act faster to block suspected fake websites and scams.

Too many Kiwis are being targeted through fake online “boutiques”, texts and social media, and providers often hesitate to act for fear of legal repercussions. The safe harbour will give them confidence to move quickly, and allows them to stop suspicious payments or block scam links. It’s about taking fast, decisive action to combat scammers.

Back in October I spent an afternoon with Minister of Conservation Tama Potaka exploring the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail (Pinnacles Walk) - truly one of the most spectacular tracks in the country.

We were fortunate to have the Department of Conservation team guide us through the area, sharing insights into the trail’s history, the kauri forest, and the ongoing conservation work that keeps this iconic walk thriving.
