You know me as Illinois’ governor and MK’s husband. I’m also proud to be Roy Cooper’s friend — especially as he faces down the most competitive U.S. Senate race of 2026 (and probably the most expensive one on record.)

The truth about Roy is, he’s a public servant to his core. And he’s a good one. He’s experienced in all the ways that matter, and it’s obvious that his life’s purpose is building a North Carolina that works for everyone.

I’ve seen how affordability issues have hit North Carolinians hard. They’ve hit hard in Illinois, too, which is why we raised the minimum wage to $15 an hour, made grocery costs cheaper, and a lot more. When Roy was governor of North Carolina, he had similar priorities, and his track record of success speaks for itself: His Medicaid expansion has gotten over 690,000 people health insurance. He brought 640,000+ good-paying jobs to the state. And he raised average teacher pay by over 19%.

While Roy is dedicated to public service, I can’t say the same for his opponent. Michael Whatley has no real plan to make life better or more affordable for North Carolinians. In fact, these days, he’s doubling down on the MAGA fantasy that Trump’s chaotic policies have made our basic needs less expensive. He’s even admitted that he’s running for this Senate seat because Donald Trump told him to. This obvious puppet behavior is embarrassing, and it would almost be funny if the consequences weren’t so serious.

John, you know me as someone who tells it to you straight. This time is no different. North Carolinians can’t afford to send a Trump yes-man like Michael Whatley to the Senate — but Washington Republicans think if they spend enough on this race, they can trick the people of North Carolina into forgetting that their MAGA policies make life worse for everyone. I’m counting on you to show them they’re wrong, so can you give any amount right now to support Roy? He’s the only candidate in this race Trump can’t control with puppet strings.
