Dear friend, it’s your Congresswoman, Gwen Moore. As we wrap up 2025, I want to wish you all a happy holiday and share highlights from this year.
Since the start of the Trump administration, I worked to raise critical questions regarding DOGE's access to your personal data. I used my voice to oppose the harsh cuts in the so-called Big, Beautiful Bill and the harm it would pose to BadgerCare/Medicaid. I also joined my constituents in standing with Ukraine.
As a member of the Ways and Means Social Security subcommittee, I remain a strong champion of this lifeline. This year, I continued to raise alarms about the Trump Administration's proposed changes to beneficiary services and staffing and how it could affect Americans who depend on Social Security.
In June, I joined my dear friend and colleague Rep. Mark Pocan in visiting the Dodge County Jail, where my constituent Ramon Morales Reyes was being held, despite being framed for a crime he didn't commit. As a member of Congress, I will continue advocating for my constituents and conducting oversight.
After August's historic flooding, I was so proud of how our community came together. I had the opportunity to give my thanks to our hardworking first responders who helped so many residents in that time of need. I continue to support Governor Evers' appeal of the Trump administration's decision to deny local communities funding to repair public infrastructure and to mitigate future natural disasters.
Later in the year, I lifted up the importance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and coordinated with Meals on Wheels to help serve seniors lunch with County Executive Crowley.
On the House Floor, I spoke on the need to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium subsidies, so health care remains affordable for millions, including many in Milwaukee. I know so many of you are facing higher costs, and I am pushing for relief to help you and your family.
I also wanted to share some of the ways my office has served Wisconsin’s Fourth. My district office staff's expertise and experience navigating federal agencies has helped many constituents recover federal benefits they’ve earned.
My committed staff has helped numerous veterans, small businesses, and working families access benefits, providing great relief in often stressful situations.
One constituent was approved for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and was waiting seven months for back pay and had received no response from the Social Security Administration (SSA). Thanks to our office's persistence, she was finally able to receive a lump-sum payment of $23,000!
Another constituent applied online for Medicare Part A+B, had not received her Medicare Card and didn't receive a response from the SSA for four months! After contacting our office, we were able to secure answers from the Social Security Administration within four days, which provided clarity on her application process and benefits process. With assistance from our staff, she began receiving her retirement benefits on her birthday!
Engaging with You all!
With so much happening, I really appreciated the chance to share federal updates with you at my Congressional Cafes. Thank you for staying engaged!
