As 2025 comes to a close, I’d like to recap my work on behalf of the Ninth District.

This year, I traveled across our beautiful Ninth District to continue building and strengthening relationships with communities in every corner of Northeast Georgia. I always appreciate the opportunity to visit and learn more about our District’s successful small businesses, farms, industries, and organizations. Additionally, I coordinated with local leaders to ensure you and your family continue to receive the best service and representation.

On the new “From Combat to Congress,” I recap the House's final session week of 2025 and wish your family a very Merry Christmas!

As I’ve shared with you before, it was Congress’s intent to eliminate both the taxation and registration provisions of the National Firearms Act in the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB). The two are inseparably linked, meaning when the OBBB zeroed out the $200 tax on suppressors and short-barreled firearms, the law also removed the legal standing behind the associated registration requirements on these firearms. For the past few weeks, I’ve been urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to adopt and advance congressional intent on this matter in all related litigation. Unfortunately, the DOJ ignored our intent and alarmingly defended the National Firearms Act in a recent court filing.

Therefore, I led over 40 House and Senate Republicans in requesting that the DOJ reconsider its position and ensure future filings reflect Congress’s clear directive regarding the NFA’s taxation-registration linkage. We have a historic opportunity to ensure both NFA taxation and registration on suppressors and short-barreled firearms are gone for good. The DOJ is fully empowered to decline to defend statutory provisions that no longer rest on a valid constitutional basis. It has exercised that authority before, and it must do so again – this time in defense of Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Our liberties are not up for debate or interpretation, which is why I will not rest until we win this fight.

Across our District this December, Northeast Georgia communities have been hard at work to ensure that every family has a joyous Christmas. For example, White County Family Connection recently hosted a free food drive-through that provided meals to more than 100 local families. Sponsored by Owens Welding, the event’s success was made possible by the generosity of dozens of volunteers who gave their time in service to others. Additionally, in Hiawassee, News Talk 95.1 WJRB raised nearly $6,500 in a single day to help Towns County families and children receive Christmas gifts. Combined with contributions from a previous event at Mary's Southern Grill, the station raised thousands of dollars in partnership with the Towns County Sheriff’s Office and Hiawassee Police Department to help give local children a brighter Christmas. Meanwhile, the Union County Sheriff’s Office and Blairsville Police Department collected donations for toy drives and took almost 200 local children shopping for Christmas gifts as part of its 26th annual Shop with a Cop event.

These are just a few examples of the remarkable generosity taking place throughout our District this Christmas season. I’m incredibly proud of our community for hosting these wonderful events, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has stepped up to serve others and spread holiday cheer.

This week, I look forward to spending Christmas with my family, celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and reflecting on God’s joyous blessings. I hope you and your loved ones have a Merry Christmas! May we always remember that the reason for the season is Jesus.
