Entering a New Chapter for Emgage
Dear Emgage Community,
As I begin my tenth year with Emgage, I am writing to share an important update. After deep personal reflection, I have decided to step down as CEO and transition into an advisory role, where I can focus on strategic priorities to support Emgage’s continued growth. This decision comes from a long-held belief that leadership should evolve, and I am excited to see how new perspectives will guide Emgage to even greater heights.
I am grateful for the support of our leadership team and our Board of Directors. Please see here [[link removed]] for a message from the Board on this transition.
From the very beginning, my journey here has been rooted in a belief in people and the power of teamwork. One of my earliest priorities was to build a leadership team to steer this organization forward, and I am profoundly proud to see leaders like Iman Awad, Mohamed Gula, Nada al-Hanooti, and so many others who have been on this journey. I am eternally grateful to our Board of Directors, including our Chair of Emgage Foundation, Iltefat Hamzavi and the Chair of Emgage Action, Khurrum Wahid, for their trust, guidance, and unwavering support. I also extend my sincere thanks to the countless partners, allies, and mentors who have walked alongside us, and to our generous financial supporters. Our success is truly yours as well.
Looking back, I am filled with pride at what we have accomplished together. We expanded into new states, established our national office, professionalized operations, diversified our board and staff, grew our funding, secured our future through the creation of an endowment and deepened key partnerships. Through programs and coalitions, we helped mobilize over a million voters across two presidential cycles, trained hundreds of Emerging Leaders, built a network of policy experts and elected officials, and helped pass landmark legislation. Above all, we helped foster a culture where civic engagement is not a question of if Muslims will vote, but rather, at what scale . I am deeply proud of the courage, humility, and humanity our team has shown along the way.
Effective January 1, 2026, I look forward to stepping into my advisory role. Until then, I am committed to working closely with our leadership to ensure a smooth transition and to prepare Emgage for an impactful 2026. Together, we will build a roadmap that keeps our mission at the heart of everything we do. We will keep you updated in the coming weeks and months, and we count on your continued support, engagement, and well wishes.
Thank you all for all you have done, and for all that lies ahead.

Wa'el Alzayat
