John,

You may have seen Wells Fargo back in the headlines recently, and once again, it’s for mistreating the very communities it claims to serve.

New reporting and recently settled litigation confirmed what many Black workers have been saying for years: Wells Fargo publicly touted its diversity efforts while privately running a practice that harmed Black and Brown job seekers. Candidates were invited to interviews for roles that were already filled or never genuinely available, “diversity interviews” staged purely for optics, not opportunity.

And now, instead of correcting the harm, Wells Fargo has joined a growing wave of corporations quietly rolling back their diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments. This retreat is happening at the exact moment when political attacks on DEI are intensifying, creating even greater risks for Black workers who already face higher barriers in hiring and upward mobility.

Color Of Change is calling this out because corporations like Wells Fargo have enormous influence over our daily lives. They hold our mortgages. They finance our businesses. They handle our paychecks and our savings. If a company this large is allowed to retreat from equity and accountability without consequences, others will follow, and the progress our communities have fought for will be pushed even further out of reach.

That’s why we are making one clear demand: Wells Fargo must publicly reinstate, fully resource, and enforce a comprehensive DEI plan that includes independent oversight, transparent reporting, and a real process to repair the harm done to candidates who were misled.

This is about more than DEI language on a website. It’s about trust, accountability, and whether corporate power can continue to profit from Black communities while simultaneously undermining us.

We win when we act together. Color Of Change members have forced major corporations to change course before, and we can do it again.

Add your name to demand that Wells Fargo restore real DEI practices and take responsibility for the harm caused to Black job seekers.
