Zenk Named New Director of National Institute of Nursing Research
Shannon Zenk, PhD, RN, FAAN, assumes her role as the director of the National Institute of Health's National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) in the fall. Zenk will oversee NINR’s annual budget of nearly $170 million, which supports its research and training activities that are designed to advance symptom science, enhance palliative and end of life care, and develop the next generation of nurse scientists.

N.C. Action Coalition Represented on Health Equity Task Force
Catherine Sevier, DrPH, RN, AOCN, co-chair of the North Carolina Action Coalition and president of AARP NC, and Lenora Campbell, PhD, dean of nursing at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, serve as newly named appointees to the Andrea Harris Social, Economic, Environmental, and Health Equity Task Force. The state panel is designed to address the social, environmental, economic, and health disparities in communities of color that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nebraska Nurse Adds Her Voice to Omaha World Herald's Opinion Page
Courtney Allen-Gentry MSN, RN, is a newly named contributing columnist offering her perspectives on issues of the day for the Omaha World Herald. In a recent column, Allen-Gentry addresses the history of racial injustice and the need for all people to come together to call out racism. Allen-Gentry will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Nebraska Action Coalition's annual conference.

Campaign 7/27 Webinar to Address Improving Health Equity
Kupiri Ackerman-Barger, PhD, RN, FAAN, will present the first in a series of webinars to support nurses, "Leveraging the Power of Nurses: Promoting Health Equity through a Framework of Cultural Humility." Ackerman-Barger, associate dean for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, will discuss the term "cultural humility" and its relevance to mitigating health disparities. Introducing the Population Health in Nursing Research Team
Just as the Population Health in Nursing (PHIN) project team was concluding its work which spanned nearly two years, the United States recorded its first death attributed to COVID-19. Examining Linkages Between Home Health and Personal Wellness
The Nebraska Action Coalition participated in a pilot study with multiple Nebraska stakeholders that was designed to better equip tenants to improve the health of their homes. The findings reveal that participating homes saw a significant improvement in several dimensions of wellness including ventilation, safety, and a reduction in moisture.

Student Mentoring Program in Maryland to Launch
The Campaign for Action is pleased that Morgan State University's Nursing Program collaborated with the University of Maryland School of Nursing Workforce Center and received a grant of more than $146,000 from the Maryland Higher Education Commission Nurse Support II Grants program. Our thanks to Morgan State University for its efforts, which included attending the mentorship training programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office Minority Health, and the Campaign.
