Hi John,

Let’s be clear about what happened last week.

Republicans in Congress deliberately chose not to protect Affordable Care Act (ACA) funding. They are allowing enhanced ACA subsidies to expire at the end of this month — on purpose.

Why? Because Republicans held affordable health care hostage by trying to jam new restrictions on abortion and gender-affirming care into the renewal of ACA premium tax credits. When it became clear they wouldn’t get everything they wanted, they walked away.

Now millions of people will pay the price for their cruelty and extremism.

While these politicians have gone home to celebrate the holidays with their families, over 20 million people across the U.S. are left scrambling, knowing their health insurance premiums could more than double in just weeks. This isn’t theoretical. This is rent money. Grocery money. Childcare money. This is people being forced to choose between health care and survival.

And the damage won’t stop there.

When people lose coverage, uncompensated care skyrockets. Hospitals and birth centers — especially in rural communities — will be forced to shut their doors. Pregnant people will be pushed into fewer, farther, and more dangerous options for prenatal care and birth. Families will travel hours just to get basic care. This puts lives at risk.

Make no mistake: this affects everyone. Your neighbors. Your friends. Your kids. You.

That’s why we need your help before December 31.

DONATE TO HELP US

Earlier this month, we launched the Fighting Forward Fund because we knew this moment was coming. Rightwing extremists are well-funded, organized, and relentless. They are working every day to strip away abortion access, birth justice, and the right to privacy in your own health care decisions.

We'll continue to push for affordable health care that includes abortion coverage. And as pregnant people face fewer options for prenatal care and birth, we're working with partners at the state and local level to close the gap by supporting midwives and doulas. Will you support that work today? And remember, all gifts are matched up to $100,000 before December 31!

Sincerely,
