Dear Partners,

Families USA and Futures Without Violence published a new analysis ([link removed]) this week examining the reasons children have been left out of current delivery system and payment reform efforts. The analysis discusses existing and promising payment reform models that make investments in early childhood and address childhood trauma, exposure to violence and ACEs, and result in improved health outcomes and reduced costs to our health care and social services systems over the long term.

As a nation, we fail to acknowledge the direct correlation between the health and well-being of a child and the long-term health of the adult that child becomes. As a result, we continue to see profound and worsening health challenges for children and families, as well as associated morbidity and mortality in adult populations as these children age. To change this, there is an urgent need for federal and state policymakers to advance reforms that focus on improving health care delivery and payment for children—especially during COVID-19.
