Dear John,
Anyone fighting for abortion access across the country knows: the work is hard. More and more restrictions and attacks on providers arise each day. But youth activists remain undaunted. They’re working to expand access, starting on their own college campuses.
Kayla is part of our Massachusetts Medication Abortion Advisory Board, working to secure access to abortion care for students at state colleges and universities. Advocates has worked closely with youth activists in Washington, New York, and California to bring abortion care to their campuses, with more states ahead. Here’s what Kayla has to say about her work with Advocates:
“I'm one of many students in Massachusetts battling our way to getting comprehensive resources for abortion care on our campuses, including medication abortion.
It's very easy to feel alone when you are advocating for such a long time in a variety of different communities. Advocates has gifted me with a community that I can always fall back upon and rely on to support and uplift me and all of my efforts. I would have always been an activist regardless of my involvement with Advocates, but I would have been one with far fewer resources, far less support, and far fewer opportunities.”
In this moment, many activists feel that we are fighting a losing battle. But the struggle is rarely ever linear.
When it gets difficult, and we feel as if we're trending downwards, that is how we know the work we're doing is more necessary than ever."
I draw strength from Kayla and the thousands of other activists in our network. With your help, we can keep expanding the network of young people working with commitment and passion to move this country forward. Donate today.
Sincerely,
Debra Hauser
