This year a bill was advanced in our Capitol that would bring unprecedented expansion of gambling to Minnesota by legalizing mobile sports gambling, putting access to a sportsbook into every adult’s cell phone. Minnesota Family Council advocated for families like yours, exposing the direct link between this kind of gambling and depletion of family investments, amongst other devastating societal effects. You can read our full testimony here and watch it here.
Working with a bipartisan coalition of legislators from diverse districts and constituencies, we were honored to help defeat the legalization of mobile sports gambling in Minnesota in 2025. But this is an issue we anticipate arising again in 2026. Will you support our work to strengthen families across our state? Your gift is DOUBLED through year end ($400 = $800, and so on)!
John, when laws similar to the one proposed here in Minnesota have passed in other states, families have experienced financial loss in savings and investment accounts as a direct result of legalization of sports gambling. Moreover, the legalization of online sports gambling increases the risk of household bankruptcy by 25 to 30 percent after 3-4 years.
I want to thank you for the opportunity to be your voice at the Capitol. Every family in Minnesota is worth protecting from the legalization of mobile sports gambling, a predatory industry. With your help, Minnesota Family Council’s public policy advocacy will have an even greater impact in 2026.
P.S. I know you won’t be outdone by 14-year-old Ainsley’s boldness in asking our legislators to protect the athletic opportunities of girls like her across our state. Your gift today will bolster Ainsley’s voice and further our work to protect girls’ rights at the Capitol.
