John,

Thanks to supporters like you, Equality Now has worked to document the personal stories of survivors to illustrate the pervasiveness and long-term impact of online sexual exploitation and abuse (OSEA). We are grateful for the courageous women who’ve shared their experiences and the obstacles they have faced in their pursuit of justice. Their stories provide valuable insights into the legal and systemic reforms that are needed to better protect us all.

Today, I am eager for you to meet Stella, a survivor from Kenya. Like so many of the survivors of sexual violence we’ve spoken to in our work, Stella’s experience began online.

Meet Stella

At the age of 31, Stella met a man on a dating app. They spoke for six weeks before he convinced her to meet him in person. When she arrived, he “locked the door, drugged me, and raped me. He stole my phone, ID card, and other belongings before disappearing.”

Stella struggled to find the justice she deserved, describing feeling helpless and hopeless.

She said, “Nothing has been done to stop [online exploitation] from happening to someone else. That this crime is so difficult to prosecute is frustrating and angers me. People can get away with it far too easily, and perpetrators are well aware nothing will happen to them.”
Stella’s experience doesn’t have to be an ongoing reality. Equality Now is a leading figure in the movement for stronger laws and justice system responses that will help to ensure a safer future for all, online and offline for every internet user, every woman, every person. Your support can help us put laws in place to protect future generations from online sexual exploitation and abuse.

John, we hope you’ll join us in this critical work to make equality reality, so every woman and girl has equal rights, protections, and opportunities to thrive. Your gift, which will be matched up to a total of $50,000 if made by midnight December 31, will help power our movement in 2026 and beyond. ([link removed]) Thank you for your support thus far. Our work wouldn’t be possible without people like you.

In solidarity,

S. Mona Sinha
Global Executive Director
