Tell Congress:
"The American people want you to cut the defense budget by (at least) 10 percent and invest in our country!"
|
Congress is voting today to approve a $740 billion budget for the department of defense.
Yet over and over progressives hear that we can’t afford to invest in health care, an adequate coronavirus response, or addressing the climate crisis. It’s just not true. And it goes against what the American people want.
ADD YOUR NAME: Tell Congress to cut the defense budget by 10%!
Data for Progress polled this, and found that voters want to see Congress invest in America, not Lockheed Martin.
As Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, wrote on our blog:1
The Pentagon’s bloated budget incentivizes people like President Trump to threaten wars abroad and unleash militarized troops on our own people. The American public has seen this firsthand and this new poll clearly shows that they are fed up.
There is a movement afoot, led by Rep. Pocan, Rep. Barbara Lee, and Senator Bernie Sanders to put Congress on the record: Do they stand with military contractors, or with the American people?
Your voice today is powerful―SIGN NOW to tell Congress to cut the military budget!
Our government’s pathetic response to the COVID-19 crisis shows that the greatest threats to our country can’t all be fought with tanks and bombs. But if tanks and bombs are all we spend money on, we’ll be just as unprepared when the next crisis comes.
Thanks,
Sean McElwee
