Our appointed, inexperienced Attorney General is pretending to dismiss the McCloskey case just so he can get back on cable TV.

Sham of an Attorney General

Our appointed, inexperienced, sham of an Attorney General is at it again.

Yesterday, in order to get on cable news for about 4 minutes, our Attorney General filed a brief in the McCloskey case.
[link removed]

He pretended like he filed some special motion to dismiss the case. He didn't. It's another attempt to deceive the public.

Like the time he filed a fake lawsuit against China but filed nothing against Chinese-owned Smithfield, a monopolistic corporation that continues to abuse Missouri workers and farmers.

Or the time he said St. Louis's prosecutor released looters when in fact she's prosecuted more than 20 people while his big anti-crime program has prosecuted none ([link removed]) .

Or the time he filed another voluntary, non-binding brief at the Supreme Court to support workplace discrimination ([link removed]) and then said he didn't mean it.

Or the time he told a newspaper he was enforcing his conflict of interest policy but I exposed that he wasn't and that he was in fact taking campaign donations from targets of his investigations ([link removed]) , investigations that just so happened to end very favorably for his donors.

But what's one more lie?

Our Attorney General cannot move to dismiss criminal charges against a Defendant. That's not how our system works. Our Attorney General hasn't practiced much criminal law, and certainly not much at all before he was appointed to his position a short while ago.

He also apparently doesn't realize that he was appointed Attorney General, not King of America. His powers aren't unlimited because, well, this is America, and we have laws, a constitution, and a concept called separation of powers. I suppose we could change Missouri's laws to create one statewide prosecutor and eliminate local control, but we vote on those decisions, not just silently cede them to political appointees who want to run for the next big office.

When you're charged with a crime, the Attorney General cannot enter the case for you. The Attorney General cannot move a court to dismiss your case. Maybe he doesn't know that. That wouldn't be surprising. He's botched many parts of the law in his stint as Attorney General.

But, maybe more likely, he does know. And he doesn't care. He just wants the spotlight, even if that means revving up Missourians, even if it means making false promises, whatever it takes to get him on cable TV.

I was on This Week in Missouri Politics on Sunday ([link removed]) . I got asked about this whole case, and I said the same thing: What are we doing?

Police investigated the situation, talked to witnesses, watched videos, and recommended a low-level felony charge to the prosecutor. The Republicans on the panel agreed with me: The public and TV talking heads don't know all the facts in this case, but this has become another excuse for everyone to say I'm right and you're wrong. And our politicians milk it and exploit our divisions for all they're worth.

This is where our Attorney General has chosen to spend taxpayer resources - on another fake legal action that can, by law, get no results - while children are being shot and killed in their homes.

This is the case he's outraged about while he is also spending taxpayer resources keeping innocent people in prison ([link removed]) who have lost decades of their lives despite being exonerated by the evidence.

This is his big civil rights cause when he has refused to start an actual Civil Rights Division at his office - like other states have done - that would protect all of our rights no matter how much attention Tucker Carlson gives your case.

Now he is worried about defendants' rights when he fought so hard to defund our overwhelmed public defender system ([link removed]) and advocated for the spending of millions of dollars ([link removed]) to build more prisons.

Our Attorney General isn't our lawyer. He's a crook. He has become one of the frauds he swore to protect us from. All to get on cable TV.

I hate cable TV.

And if you hate how broken our government is, how exploited we all are by frauds like this guy, help us get rid of him.

On August 4, I need you to take a Democratic ballot and vote Elad Gross for Attorney General. Then we'll do it again in November.

I need your help. Here's what you can do:
Donate ([link removed])

We're doing mass voter outreach, and each text message we send costs money, but they are very effective. I help volunteers answer specific questions so we can have deep interactions with voters. For $68, we can text 1000 Missourians ([link removed]) .
Volunteer ([link removed])

We're doing contactless flyer deliveries in many parts of the state, sending texts, making calls, and sharing on social media. Fill out the form ([link removed]) to get involved in these last two weeks! We need your help.
Share the Campaign ([link removed])

You can help so much just be emailing, texting, and calling your friends. Your recommendation in this race will mean so much to voters. We've created an online toolkit ([link removed]) to help you spread the word. You can also send your networks this message (edited however you'd like!):

My friend Elad Gross is running for Attorney General. The primary election is on August 4. Elad takes on corruption in government, is fighting to fix our justice system, and believes everyone should be able to access affordable health care. I'm really excited about his campaign!

Can you take a Democratic ballot and vote for him on August 4?

You can see what Elad's about and support him too at
www.eladgross.org ([link removed])

New Endorsements!

We have endorsements from all over the state, including from the vast majority of Democratic clubs and from all of the unions that have endorsed in the race. We're releasing more most days, and you can see them all and submit your own at EladGross.org/endorsements ([link removed]) !
Helping Missourians Vote

July 22 is the deadline to apply for an absentee or mail-in ballot. We're running ads to help more Missourians register to vote and to vote safely from home, especially those with medical complications. VoteMissouri.org ([link removed]) has helped a lot of folks in our state already. And we're helping several organizations connect with notaries. If you believe that we need to protect our right to vote, please consider donating to our effort.

The system is free to use for Missourians, but does cost us money each month.
Donate ([link removed])
Yes on 2! Yes on Elad!

We have been working to expand Medicaid in Missouri since before the campaign. Expanding Medicaid will help over 200,000 Missourians receive access to affordable care, keep our rural hospitals open, save lives, save money, decrease the burden on law enforcement dealing with substance abuse issues, and allow courts to redirect resources from massive debt collection dockets to other needed services. This will be huge for all of the communities our government continues to neglect.

On August 4 or if you vote earlier ([link removed]) , vote Yes on 2! Yes on Elad!
