John,

Earlier this week, when news dropped that Sen. Mike Lee (Utah) had introduced an amendment threatening the future of our national parks, we mobilized our supporters to contact their U.S. senators to defend national parks.[1]

And you answered the call.

We're happy to announce that Sen. Lee has walked back on some of the worst parts of the amendment. For now, our national parks won't be sold to the highest bidder.

On behalf of all of us at Environment Colorado, we'd like to say "thank you."

There is no doubt that our collective mobilization worked -- all of your calls made a difference.

Today we can celebrate, but there remains work to be done. The U.S. Senate still needs to finalize this budget bill by the end of January. There's a good chance that a similar amendment encouraging selling off, transferring and giving away national park land will be brought forward when the Senate returns from the holidays.

Our national parks aren't out of the woods yet.

But we've seen what happens when park and public land advocates come together to raise our voices. Together, we'll continue defending our national parks and wild places across the country -- and we'll let you know if we need your help again in January to save our national parks.

On behalf of our national parks, the wildlife that calls them home and the millions of visitors who love them: thank you,

Ellen Montgomery

P.S. This threat to our national parks could come up again in January. Will you donate to help us prepare to defend our special places from future threats?
