In a massive giveaway to Big Tech billionaires at the expense of your
utility bills, Donald Trump just issued an executive order to stop states
from regulating artificial intelligence (AI).

Trump’s order gives his administration sweeping power to sue states in
order to overturn their laws meant to protect our utility bills, workers,
children, consumers, and our environment from the negative impacts of AI.
Plus, it threatens to cut federal broadband internet funding for any
states that don’t bend the knee.

But it’s not just Trump cozying up to Big Tech companies: House Minority
Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced a new Democratic commission on AI, which
will “develop policy expertise in partnership with the innovation
community” – aka give the AI and Crypto lobby whatever they want.

Naturally, the Democrats appointed to co-chair this commission are in the
pockets of Big Tech and AI corporations, including NC-04 Rep. Valerie
Foushee, who’s being challenged by Justice Democrats-endorsed Nida Allam
in our first Democratic primary of the cycle in March. Here’s what the
American Prospect had to say about Foushee on the committee:

corporate-friendly New Dems, and helped craft their “innovation agenda,”
which opposes broad regulation of the AI industry and instead calls for
working with AI companies to build “consensus for next steps as lessons
are learned” and “regulate incrementally.” Foushee also partially owes her
2022 victory in a crowded Democratic primary to almost $1 million in
outside spending from super PAC Protect Our Future, funded by
now-imprisoned cryptocurrency mogul Sam Bankman-Fried.”

As Sludge reported, “The panel’s leaders rank among the House Democrats
with the deepest ties to Big Tech and AI, from holding millions of dollars
in tech stock to the contributions they’ve raised for their campaigns and
the Republican-backed deregulation bills they've signed onto.”

Once again, as billionaires threaten our costs, our jobs, and our planet,
the corporate Democratic establishment is trying to figure out how to cozy
up even closer with them.

We need to retire the members of this Party who work overtime to protect
the profits of Big Tech billionaires.
