Hello friend,
Today marks the Winter Solstice – the longest night of the year and a moment when many of us pause to welcome the return of the light. It’s a time that reminds us that even in the deepest darkness, the promise of brighter days is always on the horizon. This theme feels especially meaningful right now.
2025 has been a particularly challenging year for public lands. The Boundary Waters has faced pressure from many directions, and at times the path forward has felt uncertain. But through every obstacle, one thing has remained steady: YOU—the tens of thousands of community members, adventurers, paddlers, and Wilderness lovers who continue to show up with courage, joy, and determination.
In this season of reflection, that persistence gives me hope. It reminds me that the strength of this movement comes from people who care deeply… not just about a landscape, but about what this Wilderness and our fight for it represents: peace, belonging, connection, and the promise that some places will remain wild forever.
So on this Winter Solstice, I hope you feel that same optimism. I hope you know that your actions matter, and that even in challenging times, our collective strength shines through. I, along with the rest of the Save the Boundary Waters team want to say thank you!
