I told my dad an astounding fact the other day.
Gun homicides are at the lowest level in Philadelphia since he was at Penn in 1966.
And it’s not just Philadelphia. Allegheny County saw gun homicides drop by 39% since last year. Across Pennsylvania, gun deaths have decreased by 47% from 2022.
That generational change didn’t happen by accident. It happened because we won massive investments in violence intervention programs when it mattered most. It happened because we organized, showed up, and kept pressure on our legislators year-round. Because that’s what CeaseFirePA members do.
But at this moment, all that progress is at risk.
The Trump Administration is working to undermine what we've built by cutting deals with the gun lobby, defunding community violence prevention and survivor support programs, and reinterpreting the law to allow more illegal guns on the streets. We can’t let them undo the progress we’ve made.
Right now, we’re working on raising $150,000 by Dec. 31 to protect the programs that are making a real difference in communities across Pennsylvania . Reaching our December goal means we can maintain our proven organizing, advocacy, and accountability work in 2026.
