Dear Friend,
Animal Wellness Action takes on the biggest, toughest fights, attempting to bring relief to millions of animals.
We are triggering immense change.
* As a consequence of our work to enact the FDA Modernization Act 2.0, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is ending invasive testing on primates. A notorious Wisconsin contract laboratory has been forced to end its mass sales of beagles to laboratories. And the Senate just passed our FDA Modernization Act 3.0 to accelerate the push away from animal testing and to step into the world of 21st-century drug screening methods not relying on animals.
*
* After sustained pressure and public engagement, Adidas, ASICS, Umbro, and Mizuno agreed to stop sourcing kangaroo skins for their soccer shoes, allowing us to run the table with all nine global athletic shoe brands that had been using the parts of these iconic marsupials. These recent wins built on our prior corporate policy breakthroughs with Nike, New Balance, Puma, and other major shoe sellers. We’ve made it unacceptable for athletic shoe companies to be involved in the kangaroo-parts trade.
*
* Also, we’ve had a major breakthrough in our efforts to protect cows and to break a dairy industry monopoly in the National School Lunch Program. The U.S. House this week followed Senate action and passed key provisions of our Freedom in the School Cafeterias and Lunches (FISCAL) Act to end an 80-year federal cow’s-milk mandate in school cafeterias.

Millions of kids are lactose intolerant but the federal government kept forcing cow’s milk on them. Kids threw away 40% of the milk—more than 100 million gallons a year. I couldn’t help but think about the cows—each one now producing 25,000 pounds of milk a year. They endure so many hardships on factory farms only to see so much of their milk tossed in the trash.
*
* And when it comes to the widespread criminal practice of animal fighting, we are rooting it out in every dark corner where it festers. We are working with law enforcement all over the nation, and there’s rarely a day where there’s not a bust of an animal fighting operation. Earlier this year, one of our undercover investigations netted two national leaders of the cockfighting community at a derby, triggering arrests. We even discovered that Etsy and eBay were selling deadly cockfighting knives on their e-commerce platforms. Etsy shut down that trade, but eBay is still at it. We’ll be up in their business until that stops, too.
*
* And we are in federal court to stop an inhumane, costly, and unworkable plan to kill half a million barred owls as a strategy to limit social interactions between those owls and a different species of owl. This absurd scheme will open 14 national parks to owl hunting and pave the way for cutting old-growth forests. We’re having none of it.
These are real fights. With millions of lives at stake. So much hanging in the balance.
To do this work, we have to have firepower. That’s where you come in, with your advocacy and your financial support.
That’s why this moment matters so much. A generous supporter has stepped forward with a $25,000 matching gift, meaning every dollar you give right now will be doubled to protect animals, strengthen enforcement, and hold abusers accountable. [[link removed]]

Cruelty has its own inertia. It stops only where we lock up the gears to the enterprises that perpetuate it.
