We are asking you to call your Senator today and demand they take action immediately to protect nurses and health care workers fighting on the frontline right now to keep us safe from COVID-19.

National Nurses United

We want to be upfront with you.

If you've been reading our emails since mid-March, this email may look familiar. That's because four months later, nurses are still asking for the same basic protections needed to combat this virus.

But this email is unlike the others because right now is a key window to finally pass federal protections for nurses to get us the PPE we need to protect ourselves and our patients.

Senators returned to Washington today and we intend to make it known that we can't wait another day for them to act. Earlier today, nurses were at the Capitol demanding action – and we need your help to amplify our call to action.

Will you call your senators and demand they take action immediately to protect nurses and health care workers fighting on the front lines?

To call your senators, use our COVID-19 national hotline:

→ Dial (202) 335-6015 ←

You can use this sample script when you call (Be sure to mention if you are a nurse or health care worker!):

"Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I'm a constituent from Washington. I'm calling to ask you to take action to protect nurses and other frontline health care workers. Nurses across the country report that they are still not receiving the personal protective equipment (PPE) they need to safely care for COVID-19 patients.

I am urging you to ensure that the next stimulus package includes a mandate for two critical measures. First, we must have an OSHA emergency temporary standard to protect workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, we must create a comprehensive and transparent medical supply chain system — including the full use of the Defense Production Act to rapidly scale up domestic production of PPE.

Both of these priorities are included in the HEROES Act, and I urge you to ensure they are included in the fourth stimulus package negotiated in the Senate. Thank you."

Months ago, the House passed the HEROES Act that would provide nurses and health care workers with PPE and workplace protections — but the Senate has yet to act. That's why today, we need your help to place as much pressure as possible on your senators urging them to move on this legislation now.

As we have seen from news coming out in the past few days, this pandemic is only getting worse. That means nurses and patients will be in even more danger the longer we work without these protections. The Senate must require hospitals to provide PPE and ensure our workplaces are safe so we can continue to fight the pandemic.

We're calling for these key measures to protect nurses:

This is your chance to protect those who have put their lives on the line to protect our nation's health and safety. Almost 90% of nurses in a recent survey said that they were forced to reuse a single-use disposable mask with a COVID-19 patient. Without proper PPE, nurses are at greater risk of contracting the virus.

Let's come together and force the Senate to finally act and get nurses the protections they should have had from the start.

Make a call to your senators as soon as possible to help pack on the pressure to pass the HEROES Act and protect nurses immediately.

Let's do this,

National Nurses United
