From the very beginning, we set out to build a health system that’s accessible, dependable, and delivers exceptional care for everyone, no matter income, ZIP code, or insurance status.

World-class public health care isn’t just a promise - it’s happening here in Cook County.

Health care isn’t a privilege - it’s a right. And it’s a right I will continue to fight for every day. From the very beginning, we set out to build a health system that’s accessible, dependable, and delivers exceptional care for everyone, no matter income, ZIP code, or insurance status.

From day one, we set out to build a health system that’s accessible, dependable, and delivers exceptional care for everyone.

Nationally Recognized Public Health Care System

Provident Hospital has just been recognized as a Top General Hospital by The Leapfrog Group - one of the most respected national evaluations of quality and safety. This marks the second year Provident has earned this national distinction for patient safety and quality. Only two general hospitals in Illinois received the honor.

And our achievements don’t stop there:

  • CountyCare was ranked the highest-quality Medicaid health plan in Illinois, reflecting strong outcomes and trusted care for our members.
  • Cook County Health’s trauma programs earned American College of Surgeons (ACS) trauma verification, becoming the only program in Chicago and just the second in Illinois to achieve this distinction. This recognition confirms the highest standards of trauma care and better outcomes for patients.
  • Cook County Health also received The Joint Commission’s Health Care Equity Certification, a national recognition of our work to identify and close health care disparities.

These achievements show that safety-net health providers can deliver the highest-quality care, thanks to the dedication of our health care workers and a system built on equity, quality, and community.

But our work is under threat. Trump and his allies slash funding, limit coverage, and weaken protections that make this care possible. Together, we must protect what we’ve built, because too many people rely on it.
