Good morning, my friend. I hope this message finds you well.

We have had the strangest weather lately. One day it's freezing, and the next it's in the upper 60s. You have to wear tons of layers if you leave when it's cold because it could feel like spring in the afternoon. We are destined to have a very brown Christmas, as it will be over 70 degrees by next weekend. Such is the weather in North Carolina, though. I'm always happy when it warms up because my joints hurt so much less.

Over the past couple of months, I've worked to finish writing my book, Haven Hill. The last bit is always such a push to get through. I have a general idea of what I want to happen, but then I feel stuck. Does my desired plan make sense? Is it just a giant plot hole? Is it a horrible story that nobody will want to read?

I freeze up for a bit, struggling to write more than a chapter at a time.

Then, it seems like it all comes out in a rush. I wrote the last ten chapters of the book in about a week. I took a couple of days to let my mind rest and let my proofreader have it, then I did one more pass of the book to make sure I was happy with it and make any changes that I wanted. I wrote the epilogue two weeks after writing the final chapter, to let the ending really sink in for myself.

After that, there's another flurry of activity - formatting, designing the cover, and getting the book ready for publication. Then, I hit "publish" on Amazon and usually wait for 2-4 days to see it go live. Once I hit publish I feel like I'm emerging from hibernation. I notice that perhaps there is a mess in my room, where I haven't put my laundry away. There are leaves in my entryway that have blown in on trips in and out. There are lots of little things that I've put off while disappearing into a story.

The writing process is unique for everyone, and this one is mine. I'm so glad to be able to offer it before Christmas (Amazon says that it will still arrive before that day if you order today and don't live someplace remote.)

I would be so honored if you ordered my book to read yourself or to give as a gift. If you want to use my Amazon link to purchase, you can find it here. Amazon does not allow affiliate links to be in emails, so this takes you to a page on The OP.

Thank you so much to the folks who have already left reviews! Five-star reviews are the lifeblood of independent authors, and they help us so much!

It's hard to believe that Christmas and the end of the year are both here already. Didn't we just do this?

Our plans for the holiday are very laid back We'll be doing our traditional Die Hard marathon while eating Chinese food, and it will be very small, as my daughter in British Columbia won't be able to make it home this year. We opted NOT to do gifts this year, which is kind of nice and low pressure, too. Since half my heart will be in Canada, we have a lengthy video call planned for that day.

Sometimes I think I love a quiet, cozy Christmas without a lot of fuss most of all.

I hope that you have had a wonderful year. All of us at The OP wish you the very best and are so grateful you are part of our OP family.

Merry Christmas!

Love,

Daisy
