Dear John,

Earlier this year, billions of dollars were cut from international aid budgets by several governments — including the US and UK. These cuts aren’t just about money — they’re about power, and they’re deliberately targeting women’s rights.

The impact of these cuts is especially severe for the most marginalised women, who rely on local feminist organisations to help them work towards equality.

Thousands of women’s rights programmes have already been forced to close.

In Kenya, our partner Women Challenge to Challenge (WCC) brings together women and girls with disabilities to speak out against discrimination and violence.

Lucy, one of the organisations leaders, told us, ‘Back before I came across WCC, many girls in our community, especially those with mental disabilities were being abused… Nobody used to speak up for them. The community response was ‘It doesn’t matter, after all, who are they?’.

That response to these violations is what made me who I am today – a first responder and disability rights champion.”

WCC and organisations just like them play a vital role - mentoring young women to become disability rights champions and leaders in their communities. Over 1,300 women have joined WCC since it was founded. Without their efforts, women like Lucy would remain unseen and unheard.

We’re closing 2025 with a request to help us sustain our partners work in 2026 – your gift could help cover the costs of office rent, electricity, volunteers and essential staff.

Lucy has so many ambitions for her local WCC chapter, and for the disability rights movement in Kenya as a whole, but it is her young mentees she is most passionate about,

“I want them to be in a place where when they present themselves for opportunities, people will see them for what they can do, not for their disabilities. I want a society where attitudes have changed, where people see women and girls with disabilities as assets, not liabilities. Where women with disabilities are valued.”

But without urgent funding, organisations like WCC may likely close their doors in 2026.

Please donate today to help keep essential programmes running next year. Your solidarity has never been more important. A donation of just £5 today could help to:

• Keep safe spaces open for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

• Restore access to life-saving healthcare and medicines.

• Sustain women’s leadership and feminist organising.

, your solidarity has never mattered more. Please, give what you can today — every gift helps women like Lucy build safer, more equal futures.
