As we look toward the midterm election year, I’m reminded of what drove me to run for Congress in the first place. It was never my plan to run for office -- I’m not a career politician.
I served my community in other ways: Heading NASA under Obama, leading a local aerospace company where I created 700+ jobs in the community, and co-founding an organization dedicated to ending the wildfire crisis.
I decided to step up when it was clear that our Republican representative was in Washington to act as a rubber stamp for the MAGA agenda -- not fight for the hardworking families struggling to make ends meet in CA-27.
We faced strong political headwinds and over $15 MILLION in outside spending. Despite the odds and with your grassroots support, I was one of the only Democrats to flip a GOP seat in 2024.
Now, almost a year into my first term in Congress, the challenges we’re facing as a country and democracy are steep. I’m working hard to deliver results, but with the GOP majority bowing to Trump’s every demand, progress is slow.
It’s clear that Democrats must flip the majority to hold this administration accountable -- and it can’t be done without this competitive seat. As a first-time Congressman who flipped a GOP seat, I’m in a particularly vulnerable spot.
