Hi team,
2025 was big for Phoenix. Thanks to Mayor Kate Gallego’s leadership, we’ve notched some major accomplishments this year that will set us up for a better tomorrow. We wanted to highlight a few of those successes below.
Consider this our 2025 Phoenix Wrapped!
🏠 Built more affordable housing ahead of schedule. Earlier this year, Phoenix reached its goal of building or saving 50,000 units of affordable housing—five years ahead of its 2030 deadline.
Phoenix is “not stopping there,” Mayor Gallego pledged. She’s working to create new opportunities to build and protect affordable housing expeditiously in our growing city.
🚆 Phoenix South Central light rail is now fully operational. This major expansion connects neighborhoods in South Mountain with downtown and the entire rail system, featuring eight stations, a park-and-ride facility, and a transit hub in downtown Phoenix.
This new expansion also upgraded bike lanes, created new pedestrian pathways, and added desert-adapted landscaping and art projects. The South Central light rail expansion connects more neighborhoods to education and job opportunities—opening new doors for those who rely on transit.
🖥️ A $165 billion investment in the semiconductor industry. This year, TSMC, one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturers, said it will grow its Phoenix investment by $100 billion—yes, billion with a b! That’s on top of the $65 billion investments the company is already making in Phoenix. New fabrication plants, advanced packaging facilities, and a major research and development team center mean more good jobs for Phoenix residents.
This further cements Phoenix’s status as the semiconductor capital of the United States.
✈️ Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport welcomed its first nonstop flight to and from Asia, helping better connect Phoenix to the world. This builds on other new routes launched during Mayor Gallego’s tenure, including Paris.
Sky Harbor was also awarded a 2025 Airports Going Green Award, recognizing its leadership in aviation sustainability and innovation in making air travel as environmentally friendly as possible.
🌎 Leading the way on climate action. Since 2012, Phoenix has reduced its per-capita carbon emissions by 20.5%. The Shade Phoenix Plan is planting 27,000 trees and building 550 shade structures to help keep our city cool and provide residents with access to shady areas during extreme heat.
We have had some great success in 2025, and Mayor Gallego is already putting in the work to ensure 2026 is an even better year.
