COVID-19 isn’t going anywhere. Americans need help, and it’s on Mitch McConnell to do his job and provide adequate relief.

Here are the facts:
-The extra $600/wk federal unemployment benefits included in the CARES Act is set to expire on July 31.
-The moratorium on evictions for residents living in federally subsidized apartments included in the CARES Act is set to expire on July 25.
-Extensions of both unemployment benefits and rental and mortgage protections have been passed in the House through The HEROES Act which would:
-Expand eviction and foreclosure moratoriums to cover all renters and homeowners
-Extend eviction moratorium and mortgage forbearance for an entire year
-Provide $100 billion for an Emergency Rental Assistance program and $75 billion to the Homeowner Assistance Fund to help renters and homeowners with rent, mortgage, utilities, and other housing-related costs.

The HEROES Act has been sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk for weeks without a vote.

Americans are struggling to put food on the table, keep a roof over their heads, and provide for their families during this pandemic. The HEROES Act is absolutely critical in ensuring that these working families can make ends meet.

Since March, I've helped establish the NYS moratorium on evictions and foreclosures, pushed for a national mortgage and foreclosure moratorium, passed the Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act with House colleagues, supported the Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act, and was the original co-sponsor on the Protecting Renters from Evictions and Fees Act.

And now, after helping write and pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the CARES Act, I'm fighting for the next federal response package, The HEROES Act.

But Mitch McConnell and National Republicans have not stepped up to provide adequate relief. They care more about reopening the country for the sake of profit than they do about American lives. This is unacceptable.
