Huge, huge news: Governor Kathy Hochul just signed my RAISE Act into law!
This is a win — we raised the floor for what AI safety legislation can look like, and we rejected last-ditch attempts from AI billionaire oligarchs to wipe this bill out — and our work is just getting started.
Signing this bill into law is a significant step forward in our work to hold massive AI corporations accountable — and it sends a *loud* message to the billionaires who tried so hard to kill it that New York can’t be bought.
The most exciting thing about all of this is that it marks the beginning — not the end — of what we can do to make sure AI works in the best interests of Americans.
What we saw here in New York as we worked to enact this bill is a preview of the national fight ahead: Donald Trump — having been bought by Big Tech donors — is going to fight us tooth and nail. His pals spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in the last two weeks alone to try to stop this bill from being signed, and they’re trying as hard as they can to push me out of the NY-12 race.
But I believe leaders have a responsibility to harness the very best of AI’s potential and protect Americans from the very worst of its harms. That’s why I wrote the RAISE Act, and it’s why I’m so passionate about creating a national safety standard in Congress.
