Team, imagine this for a moment.

You’re an immigrant who becomes a legal US resident, and spends years doing everything that’s required to eventually become a US citizen.

You fill out applications, take tests on English and civics, go to interviews with immigration officers, pay fees, and more.

Then, you finally reach your moment. You head to Faneuli Hall in Boston, where for years hopeful immigrants have come to complete the naturalization ceremony, take their oath, and become rightful citizens.

Now imagine you’re standing in line to begin the ceremony, when you get delivered the worst news possible: Your citizenship is suddenly put on hold. Your American dream is being deferred.

“Why?” you wonder. Why are you being sidelined all of the sudden, after years of hard work? Well it’s for one simple reason: Donald Trump made a list of countries he doesn’t like, and you were born in one of those countries.

What happened at Faneuli Hall is an outrage and a complete mockery of everything our country stands for. Hardworking Americans are being denied citizenship for nothing other than race and nationality — it must end immediately.

That’s why Ed Markey is fighting for those who have been affected by this cruel policy by the Trump administration, and working to pass legislation to make sure this never happens again.

In the meantime, we have a role to play as well. We must build a movement that rejects this kind of needless cruelty and can defeat the MAGA far-right up and down the ballot box in November.

So please: Make a contribution to Ed Markey’s campaign today and have his back as we continue to fight for justice for our immigrant neighbors. We must defeat cruelness with kindness, and elect folks like Ed who will fight for ALL of us.
