As of yesterday, Congress has officially recessed for the holidays.
November and December have been major months in the battle to end congressional stock trading. We seized the opportunity as soon as the government shutdown ended, with nearly immediate results.
A recent hearing in the House Administration Committee reaffirmed bipartisan support for banning the trade, and almost a dozen representatives worked across the aisle to submit a discharge petition forcing a vote on the issue.
Now, Democrats have introduced a slightly different bill that would apply the same rules to the President, as well. Since members of Congress are headed home for the holidays by the end of the day today, it is unlikely that we’ll see more debate on this until January.
Once we do, though, the next step is for us to put pressure on the Senate to take action towards banning the trade — either a committee hearing to hash out specific details on a proposal, or another discharge petition to force a vote on a bill as-is. Ban The Trade will continue to update every single one of our supporters.
In the meantime, we’ve announced our first-ever slate of candidates to take on the most notorious stock traders in Congress. We know better than to put all our eggs in one basket, and the 2026 election cycle is our opportunity to introduce a new class of anti-corruption representatives.
By chipping in, you’re supporting both parts of our fight in the new year: our pressure campaign on current members of Congress to pass a ban on congressional stock trading, and our election project to support candidates who live up to our principles. Please, donate what you can today »
