Notes from the Office of Speaker Mike Johnson

Hello, friends! Thank you for subscribing to the Office of Speaker Johnson's newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District.

IN THE HOUSE

On Wednesday, House Republicans passed the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act – legislation that lowers health care premiums, increases health care access, expands health care choices, and brings greater transparency to America’s health care system. Every House Democrat voted against this legislation, which would lower premiums for all Americans by more than 11% and save taxpayers $30 billion in the process. Read more about the legislation here.

On Thursday, House Republicans passed four bills to expedite infrastructure projects, unleash American energy production, and boost economic growth. The Power Plant Reliability Act, the Mining Regulatory Clarity Act, the SPEED Act, and the Reliable Power Act fulfill Republicans' pro-growth agenda through these permitting reforms and commonsense deregulation. In 2022, at the height of Biden's border crisis, Kayla Hamilton was brutally raped and murdered by Walter Javier Martinez, an illegal alien and known MS-13 gang member released into the U.S. under President Biden without background checks. On Tuesday, the House passed H.R. 4371, the Kayla Hamilton Act, which closes dangerous loopholes that allowed unaccompanied alien children (UACs) with criminal or gang affiliations, including MS-13 ties, to exploit the system under President Biden.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK

On Wednesday, at the Treasury Department, Speaker Johnson delivered remarks about Trump Accounts – tax free savings accounts for every child born in America, which were passed into law through the Working Families Tax Cuts. Speaker Johnson said these accounts are "extraordinarily transformational" for every American. Click the image below to watch Speaker Johnson's remarks.

On Thursday, Speaker Johnson had the opportunity to visit with a few National Guardsmen from Louisiana who are currently stationed in Washington, D.C. We are deeply grateful for the sacrifice and heroism of the Louisiana National Guard as they work each day to keep our nation's capital safe.
