John, I made a tough call yesterday, and you deserve to know why.
This quarter has been one of the most challenging we’ve faced since Trump entered office. Republicans shut down the government for weeks and forced federal workers to go without pay. Costs are rising for working Americans. Republicans are gutting health care benefits from Americans in need. And all the while, Trump has launched a sham investigation into me to kick me out of Congress.
All of these have contributed to our fundraising slowing down. And that’s exactly what Trump and his Republican cronies were aiming for.
It became a big problem, so my team and I sat down to figure out how to respond. We decided to urgently expand our digital advertising efforts to combat these attacks and catch up.
This quarter’s fundraising slowdown meant the money wasn’t in the budget. But I gave my team the green light anyway because we can’t let these attacks against working people and myself go unanswered — and because I’m betting on this grassroots team to help us close the gap.
