Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

This week, I passed legislation and raised awareness on Trump's cruel policies. Here are just three of the things to fight for Chicago:

1. Led a Press Conference Introducing the PROTECT Immigration Act

Yesterday, I led a press conference on the PROTECT Immigration Act — my bill to stop Trump from deputizing local police for ICE and CBP operations.

Chicagoans have seen firsthand how destructive Trump's immigration raids have been to our communities. In Little Village, 911 calls dropped by 21% following the raids this fall. My bill would repeal the program that lets Trump force local law enforcement to engage in immigration enforcement, and let them get back to doing their jobs and put away actual criminals, instead of diverting resources to target our neighbors.

2. Passed a Bill to Save Our Fish in Lake Michigan

On Monday, I passed a bill to save our Great Lakes and their fishing populations!

My legislation — the Great Lakes Fishery Research Reauthorization Act — will stop Lake Michigan's fish from being leeched on and killed by sea lampreys (the ugly thing that appears to be eating my head here). Shortly before the bill's passage, I spoke about its benefits on the House Floor.

3. Called out Trump's Scrooge Politics before Christmas

I also visited Thresholds Chicago, which provides housing and mental health care to Chicagoans in need.

As we get closer to Christmas, Trump engages in #ScroogePolitics — taking away housing, health care, and food assistance from the most vulnerable while making the ultra-rich even richer. Soon, 500,000 Americans will lose their health care, 27,000 will be kicked out of emergency shelters, and 360,000 will have their SNAP benefits taken away from them.
