For almost a decade, the NDRC has been responding to all kinds of attacks on fair representation, from gerrymandering to anti-voter legislation. But in 2025, Donald Trump and Republicans launched a coordinated effort to dismantle the core tenets of our democracy, creating an unprecedented redistricting crisis.
As we confront our new reality, I want to take a step back and talk to you about how we at NDRC envision our work — especially in times like these, when it feels like the odds are stacked against us.
NDRC’s logo is a puzzle piece. We chose that image because it illustrates how the work we’re doing to rebuild a democracy where voters pick their politicians — not the other way around — is all connected. It’s all the same fight.
The way I see it, the same Republicans fighting to gut the Voting Rights Act, disenfranchise Black voters, and exclude certain residents from the census are the same ones trying to rig the midterm elections, manipulate maps, and strip naturalized citizens of their right to vote.
Protecting the voting rights of people of color is inextricably linked to passing and defending fair maps, ensuring an accurate census count, and protecting our most fundamental rights — from reproductive freedom to economic security and beyond.
We’ve all seen it this year. Texas was the first state to fall in Trump’s redistricting crisis, creating a domino effect in states like Missouri, North Carolina, and more. And we know what happens in one state is often an indication of what’s to come across the rest of the country.
Our logo is a reminder that the fight for fair representation is made of many pieces and requires focusing both on the details of individual states and the greater threat to our entire nation. The NDRC is committed to doing the work. But that type of fight — especially during an unprecedented redistricting crisis — takes enormous resources.
That’s why I’m asking you to make a donation to help fuel the massive undertaking required to keep pushing back on all these fronts — from defending fair maps to protecting the voting power of marginalized communities. [[link removed]]
