This week was nothing short of devastating for Rhode Island. I am thankful that the people of our state stood together and supported one another in this terrible and frightening moment.

And I am grateful for the members of law enforcement who worked tirelessly to locate the now-deceased suspect in this tragic shooting.

While Brown University and Rhode Island will never be the same, I hope this new development can bring closure and healing to those impacted. In moments like this, our community’s resilience and ability to draw strength from one another shine through the darkness.

My heart continues to go out to the victims and their families, who will always stay in our hearts.
