Dear members and supporters,
Twenty years ago, Grassroots Global Justice Alliance was founded on the principle of grassroots internationalism, with a bold vision of liberation connecting U.S. social movements to global popular movements.
Over the past decades, we’ve witnessed the failures of neoliberalism pave the way for the authoritarianism we’re grappling with now, while U.S. imperialism and militarism continue to devastate communities around the world.
I joined staff as the Co-Deputy Director this fall because GGJ is situated at the intersection of the work I care about most: building power, advancing a feminist economy, and connecting our struggles at home with global movements fighting for justice and equity.
This is the crux of our Berta Cáceres International Feminist Organizing School (IFOS), which over the past five years, trained more than 300 grassroots leaders from 40 countries in our decolonial popular education methodology. Our school creates a space where participants can learn from each other and shape a shared vision of a global feminist economy, a proposal that centers life and confronts patriarchy, colonialism, white supremacy, and neoliberal capitalism.
We are gearing up for IFOS Kenya in 2026, our first in-person school on the African continent, one that will build on our IFOS legacy and bring GGJ into a clear pan-African feminist practice.
To strengthen movements in the U.S., we established a Transformative Organizing School in partnership with Right to the City Alliance this year, training our first cohort of 50 groups in the nuts and bolts of base building. The challenges we’re facing now demand skilled organizers that will mobilize support to counter repression, authoritarianism, and the use of force against our communities.
We also recognize that our communities are struggling with the cost of housing, food, and healthcare, as funding for safety net programs are slashed, and families are being torn apart. Meanwhile, local and national budgets are increasing spending for militarization and enforcement here and abroad, and the billionaire class is growing larger and richer.
After deep consultation with member organizations over the past few years, we launched The People’s Care Agenda this summer, a campaign to keep our communities safe and prevent the consolidation of authoritarianism that is centered in care: Care as strategy, care as public policy.
We know the best defense is a strong offense. We are raising $150K to resource our alliance at a time of growing threats and philanthropic contraction. Will you make a donation today to sustain the crucial needs of this moment?
These funds will help us kick off the new year with resilience and rigor that matches the demands of this time. We need to provide rapid response for community defense, scale up grassroots feminist leadership, and build a lasting movement that doesn’t just block harm, but is prepared to govern.
Beyond GGJ, we are working in national organizing spaces to block authoritarianism and shore up the frontline grassroots ecosystem. Earlier this year with Movement for Black Lives, Right to the City, and Rising Majority, we started a Resource Mobilization Anchor Circle to develop a collaborative fundraising pitch to fortify our collective memberships. |
