The administration wants to strip food assistance that these families rely on to survive.
Federal statutes make clear that refugees, asylees, humanitarian parolees, individuals whose deportation has been withheld, and other vulnerable legal immigrants become eligible for SNAP once they obtain their green cards and meet standard program requirements.
The USDA’s memo unlawfully rewrites those rules and threatens to cut off food assistance for people who are fully eligible under the law.
This guidance is unlawful, cruel, and will leave families hungry. That’s why I filed a lawsuit with 21 attorneys general to stop this before people lose the benefits they depend on.
