We're heartbroken from the loss of two students who were shot and killed and the nine others who were injured at Brown University on Saturday—and we're standing with the Providence community, which has been shattered by this tragic act of gun violence.
This weekend was another devastating reminder: Unfettered access to guns is threatening our safety, traumatizing our communities, and taking our loved ones from us too soon.

Hi -
When firearms are too easily accessible, they can fall into the hands of those who shouldn't have them, like someone in a crisis, someone intending to harm others or commit a crime, or a child who could harm themselves or others unintentionally.
But something as simple as properly securing firearms can save lives and help prevent crime, school shootings, unintentional shootings, or deter someone from attempting suicide. But only 46% of gun owners report securely storing all of their firearms. It's time we changed that.
Storing firearms securely is one solution to our gun violence crisis that everyone can get behind—which is why our movement has been hard at work this year, fighting to change the culture and laws around secure gun storage.
Here are just a few things our movement accomplished this year in the fight to keep firearms securely stored and out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them:
- In Hawai'i, we pressured lawmakers into upgrading the state's decades-old secure storage law, enhancing it to become one of the strongest in the nation.
- Everytown Research marked 10 years of tracking unintentional shootings by children—vital research that helps inform our movement's evidence-based solutions to gun violence.
- In Montana, we secured historic funding for suicide prevention efforts, including a statewide campaign on secure storage, by working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
- We celebrated 10 years of Be SMART, a nationwide campaign educating communities about secure storage practices!
- Moms and Students Demand Action volunteers helped pass secure storage resolutions in cities and school districts all over the country—from Missouri to Virginia to Maine.
From school board meetings to statehouses, our movement is working to stop the preventable tragedies that can happen when guns aren't stored safely. But there's so much more we want to accomplish in 2026 and beyond. So, will you pledge to join us next year to prevent gun violence?
