WEEKLY LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FROM WASHINGTON:

We are growing tired of watching time slip away while President Trump’s agenda goes uncodified.

This past week, the House passed the FY 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which now heads to the Senate.

The FY26 NDAA includes major policy victories and Lowcountry wins we worked hard to secure:

  • Prohibit DEI practices, offices, and trainings within the Department of War
  • Prevent men from competing in women’s sports at military service academies
  • Ban painful research on cats and dogs funded by the DoW
  • Require inclusion of VA resources in Military Sexual Trauma response training
  • Ensure no-cost rape kits for DoW civilian employees and contractors overseas
  • Expand access to maternal health resources through Military OneSource

We secured critical authorizations for the Lowcountry:

  • Authorization for an Eastern Regional Range Complex for electromagnetic warfare
  • $65.4 million for a Nuclear Power Training Facility Simulation Expansion
  • $33 million for an Aeromedical Evacuation Facility at Joint Base Charleston
  • Extensions totaling more than $290 million for facilities at MCAS Beaufort and MCRD Parris Island

We chaired a GOP Oversight Subcommittee hearing on using modern technology to combat human trafficking. The hearing examined how artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital forensics can help law enforcement identify trafficking networks faster, rescue victims sooner, and build stronger cases against predators, while calling out our Attorney General Alan Wilson's failures to prosecute traffickers and protect vulnerable children.

Bill Passed the House:

Our Strengthening Agency Management and Oversight of Software Assets (SAMOSA) Act has PASSED the House. Now it heads to the Senate.

Bills Introduced:

  • The Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza Act
  • The VAMOSA Act: cracks down on waste at the VA by requiring comprehensive oversight of software assets.
  • The Accountable Leadership for Veterans Act
  • The American Citizenship Healthcare Integrity Act of 2025

The House can do better, and must do better. The American people are sick and tired of delays and excuses while President Trump’s agenda remains uncodified.

Our bill, the Strengthening Agency Management and Oversight of Software Assets (SAMOSA) Act, passed the House.

The federal government spends over $100 billion annually on IT and software, but agencies often don't know what software they've already bought. YOUR taxpayer dollars are being wasted on duplicate licenses and poor oversight.

The SAMOSA Act will:

  • Require agencies to audit their software inventories
  • Eliminate wasteful, duplicative purchases
  • Strengthen accountability and transparency
  • Save taxpayer money

This is common-sense, bipartisan legislation to modernize how government manages software and end unchecked spending.

Now it heads to the Senate.

December 10th marked the three-month anniversary of the assassination of American patriot Charlie Kirk. On this day, we introduced the Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza Act, legislation which would redesignate the area of 16th Street Northwest between H Street Northwest and K Street Northwest in Washington, D.C. as "Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza.”

The area was previously symbolically designated as “Black Lives Matter Plaza” by the D.C. Government under the Black Lives Matter Plaza Designation Act of 2020, following the death of George Floyd. This period in America’s history became defined not by unity, but by chaos and destruction.

After Floyd’s death, America watched criminals burn cities while police officers were ordered to stand down. The men and women in uniform who tried to keep the peace were attacked, vilified, and abandoned by leaders who should have supported them.

Our Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza Act makes it clear which values deserve to be remembered, and which do not.

We introduced the Veterans Affairs Management and Oversight of Software Assets (VAMOSA) Act.

The VA spends nearly $1 BILLION a year on software with ZERO tracking system, leading to redundant licenses and millions in preventable waste.

Our bill requires a complete inventory, eliminates duplication, and ensures every dollar serves our veterans, not bureaucratic inefficiency.

This is basic fiscal responsibility to safeguard taxpayer dollars and guarantee every penny goes toward supporting the veterans the VA is entrusted to serve, not toward government waste or unmonitored contracts.

We introduced the Accountable Leadership for Veterans Act to strengthen accountability at the VA and cut bureaucratic red tape.

This legislation gives President Trump greater flexibility to appoint senior leaders who will be directly accountable for results, while streamlining the appointment process for critical positions overseeing veterans' health care and benefits.

When veterans need care, every second counts. Our heroes deserve a VA that operates with the same urgency and decisiveness they showed when serving our nation.

Working alongside Chairman Mike Bost and House Veterans' Affairs to deliver real reform that puts veterans first.

American citizens should not be expected to blindly subsidize healthcare costs for illegal aliens.

We introduced the American Citizenship Healthcare Integrity Act, legislation to bring transparency and accountability to healthcare costs imposed on American taxpayers by illegal aliens.

This bill requires hospitals who participate in Medicare to ask the citizenship status of patients during the intake process and report on the number of illegal aliens receiving care and the full cost of uncompensated care provided to illegal aliens.

This bill also requires annual public reporting by the Secretary of Health and Human Services so taxpayers can see exactly how much they are being forced to pay for this care.

We chaired a critical GOP Oversight Subcommittee hearing on using technology to combat human trafficking.

The average age a victim is first trafficked in America is as young as 12-14 years old. Children are being exploited on phones and websites while law enforcement drowns in over 20 million Cyber Tipline reports annually with outdated tools.

AI, data analytics, and digital forensics can recover victims in hours instead of months, but only if we give our task forces the funding and modern tools they need.

There's no excuse for inaction. We're committed to turning this conversation into real results to protect our children and bring traffickers to justice.

MACE WIN: We were awarded the Legislator of the Year Award by Competitive Markets Groups because we refuse to let foreign interests and corporate giants crush America’s farmers.

Our farmers work sunrise to sunset to feed this country, and for too long they’ve been undermined by foreign interests and multinational organizations.

Under President Trump’s leadership, we are fighting to stop corrupt big-ag schemes which hurt family farmers and ranchers.

Thank you to the Organization for Competitive Markets for this award and for your leadership fighting for independent farmers.

LOWCOUNTRY UPDATE

Weekly Report from Congresswoman Nancy Mace

CONSTITUENT SERVICES
Our team is currently managing 512 active constituent cases, helping Lowcountry residents cut through red tape at federal agencies including the IRS, Department of Veterans Affairs, and USCIS.

To date, our office has returned more than $37.2 million directly to South Carolinians owed money by the federal government.

One case this week was especially meaningful: Master Chief Petty Officer Vernon Littlejohn (USN, Ret.), a 30-year Navy veteran, was laid to rest at Beaufort National Cemetery. Despite being entitled to full military honors, a rifle salute was initially denied due to a Navy mileage rule. With time running short, our team escalated the issue immediately. Congresswoman Mace personally intervened, coordinating across branches to ensure full honors were provided by the United States Marine Corps. Our office was present at the service and ensured the family received video of the rifle salute.

IN THE DISTRICT
Our team completed or supported 23 events, meetings, and site visits across the Lowcountry this week, including disaster resilience forums, defense and infrastructure meetings, small business ribbon cuttings, community events, service academy interviews, and local government coordination.

FEDERAL FUNDING & LOCAL PROJECTS

This week, our office helped keep critical projects on track:

  • Secured a FEMA grant extension for the City of Isle of Palms ahead of a hard deadline.
  • Assisted in clearing delayed federal permits for the Edisto Island Youth Recreational Center, moving the project closer to groundbreaking.
  • Submitted letters of support for higher-education innovation at Charleston Southern University.

This is the behind-the-scenes work of our office—problem-solving, coordinating, and delivering for the Lowcountry every day.

Lowcountry FIRST.

MACE WIN: Constituents and veterans Sheffield Brodene and Tommy O’Connor share what our office was able to accomplish for them.

Mr. O’Connor, an 89-year-old veteran, spent more than three years trying to access his earned VA benefits after his service records were destroyed in the 1970s National Archives fire.

When he reached out to our office, a caseworker responded within minutes, maintained constant communication, and worked with the VA until his benefits were finally restored.

Thank you to Tommy and Sheffield for your service and your kind words. We promise this: no one works harder for South Carolina’s veterans.

If you or a loved one needs assistance with the VA or any federal agency, please visit mace.house.gov/contact. Our team stands ready to help.

Samuel Theodore Cain has been denied bond for the THIRD time, after making continued threats to assassinate Congresswoman Mace in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder.

Thank you to the judge, law enforcement officers, investigators, and prosecutors who took these threats seriously and acted decisively.

Because of your swift action, professionalism, and commitment to upholding the law, a dangerous individual remains behind bars, where he belongs, and the public is safer for it.

Your dedication sends a clear message: threats of violence will be met with accountability, and the rule of law will be upheld.

The Island News published an op-ed outlining our work to expand access to care for Lowcountry veterans. As a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, we helped approve the authorization of more than $30 million for a state-of-the-art VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic in Beaufort County, bringing primary care, mental health services, and essential VA programs closer to home for nearly 17,000 local veterans.

We held a virtual press conference with local media highlighting our 19 NDAA wins for taxpayers, military readiness, animal lovers, common sense, and the Lowcountry.

Fox News highlighted our bill, the Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza Act, because renaming this plaza matters. The Black Lives Matter movement following George Floyd’s death divided the country and devastated the law enforcement community. After Charlie Kirk was assassinated there were ZERO riots, ZERO lootings, ZERO injuries, and ZERO businesses destroyed. The difference between these two events in history is UNMISTAKABLE. Charlie Kirk deserves recognition, BLM does not.

We went on CNN and talked about the key issues South Carolinians are focused on: infrastructure, illegal immigration, and making life affordable again. We’re working alongside President Trump to deliver for families across the Lowcountry and across our state. No one works harder for South Carolina.

Check out one of the interview clips HERE.

We went on Fox Business to talk about our recent op-ed in The New York Times and how President Trump won in a landslide, on his agenda. Congress has yet to implement it. The time is NOW before it is too LATE.

Fox Carolina covered the case of Samuel Cain, who also goes by the name “Roxie,” after he was denied bond for a third time for threatening to assassinate Congresswoman Mace.
