Oakland County Backs State Decision to Align Michigan’s Vaccine Guidance with Pediatric Experts

Pontiac, Mich. – Oakland County supports the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Chief Medical Executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian’s decision to align with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) evidence-based immunization schedule, particularly around the birth dose of hepatitis B.

Oakland County Health Division will continue to administer and recommend vaccines following the AAP schedule because the science clearly shows that timely vaccination protects our most vulnerable residents. As a foundation of the health and well-being of our community, Oakland County remains committed to ensuring that every resident has access to vaccines. County Executive administration and the Board of Commissioners approved an additional $300,000 for vaccines in fiscal year 2026.

“Our goal in Oakland County is to reduce confusion and help parents make informed decisions about vaccinating their children based on the best available evidence,” said Kate Guzman, Oakland County health officer. “I support the leadership shown by our state’s chief medical executive and her focus on data and safety and putting that information directly into the hands of our residents.”

The Oakland Connects Helpline is staffed by experienced public health nurses trained to answer questions about vaccines. Call 1-800-848-5533. No one will be denied access to immunizations at Oakland County Health Division due to inability to pay. The Health Division utilizes a discounted/sliding fee schedule and participates in the Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) and Adult Vaccine Program (AVP) which offers vaccines at no cost for eligible individuals.

Health Division offices are located at the following addresses:

  • North Oakland Health Center, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Building 34 East, Pontiac
