A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan

As we approach Christmas, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone across Nottingham for the way you continue to support one another and our city. This week councils across the country received local government settlements, which is the direct funding councils receive from Government. Early indications are positive for Nottingham, with core spending power directly connected to need. We are looking at what this means for Nottingham so watch this space for more information in the New Year.

This week, we’re also highlighting some positive developments across Nottingham, including the launch of the new Ride travel app, designed to make getting around Nottingham easier than ever. Developed with Derby City Council, Ride brings journey planning, ticketing and real-time travel information together in one place, helping people plan, book and pay for trips with confidence - including live bus tracking to know exactly when to set off. Ride app launch

Get your ticket to Ride! New travel app launched for Nottingham

Ride logo

A ground-breaking new travel app has been launched for residents and commuters in Nottingham.

Ride, a partnership between Nottingham and Derby city councils, was officially launched last Friday (12 December) and is available for people to download free in their app stores.

Ride enables users to plan, book, pay and ride any journey in the wider Nottingham and Derby areas, across multiple different types of public transport - all in one handy place.

It gives people point-to-point route planning and allows them to buy tickets for all parts of their journey. Another excellent feature is the live map which shows every bus moving in real-time, so easy to know whether you have time to finish your coffee or dash for the stop!

The app has been built using money secured from the Government's Future Transport Zones programme. Nottingham and Derby councils joined forces to bid for the grant, which encourages projects that promote sustainable travel and behaviour change.

Festive service opening hours

Nottingham’s Christmas and New Year service changes

We’ve brought together all Christmas and New Year opening hours and service changes in one place to help you plan ahead. This includes information on bin collections and recycling centres, customer services, housing services, libraries, leisure centres, cemeteries and crematoriums, parking and transport, Winter Wonderland and the Theatre Royal Box Office.

Please check the details before travelling or making any bookings, as some services will have reduced or amended opening hours over the festive period.

Nottingham City Libraries have been awarded a *LibraryOn grant* to help improve digital access and innovation across the city’s library network.

The funding will support new and improved digital services, helping libraries continue to offer welcoming, modern spaces where people can access technology, develop digital skills and connect with their communities. This investment will help ensure libraries remain inclusive, accessible and responsive to the needs of Nottingham’s citizens.

Your waste and recycling over the festive season

As we prepare to celebrate the holidays, please remember that waste and recycling collection days will change over Christmas and New Year. Many collections will take place *earlier than usual*, so check your updated dates and put your bin out by 7am on the correct day:

Bookings are now open for real Christmas tree collections! Spaces are limited, so *book early* [ [link removed] ]to ensure your tree gets a green goodbye.

Please break down or cut up boxes before recycling as all waste and recycling must fit inside your bin with the lid closed. Nottingham City Transport roll out final electric single deck buses and announces electric double deckers are coming ??

Nottingham City Transport have rolled out their final single deck electric buses in a major milestone towards becoming a zero-emission fleet as well as towards the city's carbon neutral goals. 

Since entering operation, NCT’s electric single deck fleet has already travelled over 3.6 million kilometres across Nottingham — the equivalent of making nine trips to the moon, or almost 90 times around the Earth. The buses have also regenerated more than 2.1 million kWh of energy, significantly reducing overall energy consumption.

With the single deck rollout now complete, NCT has placed its first order for electric double decks and The East Midlands Combined County Authority is supporting the introduction of 19 electric double deck buses at NCT with £4.5m funding.

Nottingham City Libraries are helping to lead a national drive to improve digital inclusion and build confidence in using new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).

Through this work, libraries are supporting people to develop digital skills, access online services and feel more confident navigating an increasingly digital world. It reinforces the role of libraries as trusted, welcoming community spaces where people can learn, ask questions and get support.
