New Look, Same Reliable Resource

We are excited to announce our redesigned and now quarterly publication, A-V! Created for our members, the magazine shares our progress, challenges, and what work lies ahead as we advocate for animals. This issue reflects a true team effort across AAVS and our affiliates and marks an exciting new chapter in how we tell our story and advance our mission.

Our feature story, “The Canaries in the Coal Mine ([link removed]),” gives an in-depth look at the gaps in animal research oversight and the profound lack of meaningful enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act—in this case, for birds, a fight AAVS has led for over two decades.

You’ll also find in this issue:

Startling statistics that show the inadequacies of government oversight of labs

Our 20-year effort to gain Animal Welfare Act protection for birds

Celebrating 35 years of Animalearn and humane science education

The launch of a new ARDF grant initiative to defeat childhood cancer

The debut of Humane Science Allies, an interactive resource for kids to stay engaged with the natural world
