As we near the end of 2025, national studies continue to rank Oklahoma as one of the worst states (perhaps THE worst state) for women.

Oklahoma has the highest rates of domestic violence and one of the worst maternal death rates nationwide. Not to mention, the state enforces one of the strictest abortion bans in the country, with no exceptions for rape or incest. And now, in the aftermath of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” most of Oklahoma's rural hospitals are at risk of closing. As you can imagine, this has horrifying real-world consequences.

Despite all of that, the Republican frontrunner for Governor of Oklahoma – Charles McCall, the GOP Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives – is doubling down on culture wars rather than responding to the needs of constituents in this deep red state. He recently released a disturbing commercial in which he slices a banana in half (???) while stating, “Gender is god-given, and there’s only two of ‘em.”

That’s not all: McCall’s campaign website brags about his record of passing the strongest anti-choice law in the nation, supporting legislation that attacks vaccines, holding an A rating from the NRA, banning sanctuary cities, erasing Critical Race Theory from schools, and much more.

But we have a plan: if McCall wins the Republican primary, he will have a formidable and qualified Democratic WOMAN as his opponent. Her name is Cyndi Munson, and she is running a strong, well-organized campaign to be GOVERNOR of Oklahoma. Her Bold Move is honored to support her.

Cyndi is nearing a make-or-break end-of-year fundraising goal for two reasons: 1.) Unsurprisingly, Oklahoma is among the states with the lowest women’s representation in its state government. As outlined above, this underrepresentation is reflected in the state’s dangerous and draconian policies for women.

As Governor, Cyndi will repeal Oklahoma’s abortion ban. As she’s been meeting with voters across her state, she’s found that voters on both sides of the aisle feel that the current anti-abortion laws do not meet their values and ultimately prevent too many women from getting the care they need.

Additionally, according to the 2024 March of Dimes report, 51.9% of Oklahomans do not have access to maternity healthcare, and an additional 18.2% have low/moderate access to healthcare. As Governor, Cyndi wants to increase access to maternity healthcare for women across the state and fully eliminate these healthcare deserts. Her plan is to introduce legislation that would increase funding for hospitals and assist in the recruitment of doctors who specialize in women’s healthcare.

Here’s the thing: Cyndi flipped a majority Republican district and has kept it for the last 10 years – she’s actually increased her win margins election after election. She accomplished this by knocking on doors, having honest conversations, and staying true to her values. Now, she needs our help to keep up that momentum.

We’ve seen Democratic Governors win in “red” states – despite having Republican supermajorities in their State Houses and Senate chambers. Kentucky and Kansas, for example, have both elected popular Democratic Governors. If anyone can do it, it’s Cyndi Munson.
