Dear Friends,

The most powerful action we can take when life seems its darkest is to shine our light brighter. The light of love, the light of friends and family, the light of faith in the goodness of others that gives us hope. And without question, times seem very dark and trying right now.

This week, the Hanukkah holiday began with a tragic anti-Semitic gun massacre in Australia. Only hours later, college students were shot at Brown University. And here in California, my family and countless others are mourning the tragic, violent deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner, whose powerful art, compassion and patriotism made us laugh, cry and think.

But it is when things seem the darkest that we must come together, speak truth and fight for the least among us. And here’s the truth of the matter — the President and Republican leadership in Congress have broken the economy and left working families to pay the price.

The difference between Democrats and Republicans in Congress is that Democrats are here for America’s working families — Republicans are not. Why on earth would you take away something from American families that is so central to both their financial security and, first and foremost, their health security? There is no way to understand it, other than it is just about doing what the President says. It’s not about doing anything that is wholesome, right or respectful. It’s solely political, cruel and inhumane.

Cruelly, Republicans have just denied working families relief from rising health care costs. Speaker Johnson ignored the majority in the House of Representatives who signed the discharge petition to extend ACA credits for three years. This heartless decision, coming right at the holidays, means that families will have tighter budgets and higher costs.

But we will not give up! We will not stop fighting to Save Our Health Care and to make sure that your voices are being heard.
