Dear friend,
Welcome to our final newsletter of 2025 at the end of our 40th year of working for equality in mental health. It’s been a busy year for us, as evidence has mounted about the rising prevalence of mental ill health and the urgency of action to turn it around. We shared our new five year strategy, setting out how we’re determined to do our part to build a mentally healthier future.
In December, we published our evaluation of the brilliant work of Pact with young people in prisons who have experienced multiple traumas and adversities. That report is the latest of our evaluations of innovative approaches to mental health, with more to come next year. Yesterday, 18 December, the Mental Health Act received Royal Assent. The Act finally brings the law into the twenty-first century. For too long, it has lagged behind our understanding of what people need to protect their rights and dignity when they are unwell. It is vital now that the new Act is implemented swiftly, comprehensively and equitably. My latest blog explores this further.
Our fight for equality in mental health will continue in 2026. We know there’s more work to do. Social injustice drives too much mental distress and ill health. And people with mental health difficulties face unfair barriers to equitable lives. So we’ll be researching ways to tackle mental health inequality and advancing evidence-based policies that will make a difference.
Our training in Individual Placement and Support will ensure more people get the right help with work when they want it. And through our networks and convening, we’ll keep learning and sharing ideas and insights from across the country.
On behalf of us all, we’d like to thank you for working with us in 2025 and we’ll look forward to 2026 with a determination to create a mentally healthier future for all. If you can, please consider helping us to make that difference next year by donating. Thank you.
