Ride app launch

Get your ticket to Ride! Council launches new travel app for Nottingham

Ride logo

A ground-breaking new travel app has been launched for residents and commuters in Nottingham.

Ride, a partnership between Nottingham and Derby city councils, was officially launched last Friday (12 December) and is available for people to download free in their app stores.

Ride enables users to plan, book, pay and ride any journey in the wider Nottingham and Derby areas, across multiple different types of public transport - all in one handy place.

It gives people point-to-point route planning and allows them to buy tickets for all parts of their journey. Another excellent feature is the live map which shows every bus moving in real-time, so easy to know whether you have time to finish your coffee or dash for the stop!

The app has been built using money secured from the Government's Future Transport Zones programme. Nottingham and Derby councils joined forces to bid for the grant, which encourages projects that promote sustainable travel and behaviour change.

Read more here and download the app through the new Ride website here.

Roads and rail set for busiest day of the year

Reminder that today (Friday 19 December) is widely thought to be the busiest travel day of the year as people break up for Christmas.

The RAC believes that 37 million cars will hit UK roads over the coming days, with 3pm to 7pm being the peak time today for journeys. Train companies are also urging passengers to book seats on services ahead of travelling.

EMR starts running new train timetable

A new East Midlands Railway (EMR) timetable came into effect from last Sunday (14 December).

This forms part of EMR’s wider plans to improve connectivity across the East Midlands, South Yorkshire and Greater Lincolnshire, while making the best possible use of its fleet and supporting the long-term sustainability of the railway.

The new timetable enables EMR to operate more train services across the regional network, introduce new journey opportunities, and build-in performance improvements.

Headline changes include:

  • The introduction of two direct services between Derby and Lincoln per hour during the week and on Saturdays
  • More frequent Sunday services on the Matlock – Derby – Nottingham route
  • More services for Hykeham, Burton Joyce, Radcliffe, Attenborough and Spondon
  • New direct journey opportunities – including Matlock to Cleethorpes and Crewe to Lincoln

As with any timetable change, many individual journeys and departure times will alter. EMR is encouraging customers to check their journeys in advance using online journey planners or the dedicated information on the company's website here

Last disruption email of 2025

Quick note that this will be the final Nottingham City Council transport disruption email of 2025. The next one will come out on Friday 9 January 2026.
