Key legal battles for your freedom lie ahead—your gift helps provide the resources to fight these cases to victory!

Dear John,

Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in the Harris Funeral Homes case.

The Court ruled that, under federal employment law, an employer discriminates on the basis of sex when that employer terminates an employee based solely on the employee’s sexual orientation or transgender status.

The decision was narrow, but the aftermath of this ruling could change the course of freedom for generations.

What happens next could affect your freedom

The Court’s decision leaves open big questions.

Will small business owners be punished for operating according to their religious beliefs?

Will women lose hard-won equal opportunities in athletics and education? Will their privacy and safety be protected?

Will religious organizations be denied the freedom to adhere to their beliefs?

Will free speech be silenced in the workplace?

These questions and more will be answered through future cases.

Like Dr. Allan Josephson’s.

In 2017, Dr. Josephson was asked to speak on a panel at the Heritage Foundation entitled “Gender Dysphoria in Children: Understanding the Science and Medicine.”

As the Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Louisville for nearly 15 years, Dr. Josephson had a lot to say on the subject.

He felt strongly that he needed to speak up for the well-being of children, many of whom were being given harmful hormonal treatments with no proven effectiveness in treating the underlying causes of their gender dysphoria.

He just never imagined that doing so would cost him his job.

Your gift today will help defend people of faith who are willing to stand up for freedom and truth.

If we don’t redouble our efforts to defend freedom, we could see more stories like this

When members of Dr. Josephson’s division at the University of Louisville learned about his speech, a few became angry and called for the university to discipline him.

Less than seven weeks later, the university did just that.

On top of being demoted as Division Chief, Dr. Josephson was banned from faculty meetings. He was given academic assignments typically completed by much younger, less experienced faculty. Then the university announced it would not renew his contract, which means the university fired him.

As you can probably imagine, Dr. Josephson was devastated.

The only reason the university demoted and then fired him is because he holds a different view than some of his colleagues.

John, if experts in their fields like Dr. Josephson can be run out of their jobs for speaking an unpopular opinion about sex and gender identity, it could happen to any of us.

That’s why Alliance Defending Freedom helped Dr. Josephson file a lawsuit against the University of Louisville.

We cannot sit idly by and allow our freedoms to be stripped away.

ADF is engaged in dozens of cases working to ensure that freedom and truth are defended—especially in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision in Harris Funeral Homes.

Your tax-deductible gift is needed today to help provide the funds necessary to fight these cases to victory.

Will you help?

What activists are doing to restrict your freedoms

The Supreme Court’s decision in the Harris Funeral Homes case was surprising—but narrow.

It was hardly the sweeping overhaul of federal law that many activists were hoping for.

That’s why, just one day after the Supreme Court released its decision, a number of activist organizations and some lawmakers renewed their campaign to pass the Equality Act.

This deceptively named legislation is really just an effort to force Americans into believing that disagreement on important matters—such as marriage and human sexuality—is a form of discrimination that requires government intervention to enforce one view over the other.

In other words, the so-called Equality Act could write government overreach into federal law. And that would make punishing people of faith because of what they believe the new norm.

Activists want to punish Americans like you who believe that males are men, females are women, and marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman.

They want women’s sports to be open to males who identify as women.

They want religious medical professionals and hospitals to be forced to perform life-altering “gender transition” surgeries.

They want faith-based adoption agencies to violate their beliefs—or shut down.

They want to erase laws that reflect important God-given distinctions between men and women.

They want your faith kept behind closed doors.

John, the "Equality Act” would turn each and every one of these threats to your freedom into reality.

We are calling on members of Congress to reject this dangerous bill and protect your First Amendment freedoms.

But this continued work is only possible with God’s blessing (John 15:5) and your faithful prayers and support.

Please make your best gift right now to help protect people of faith.

If the Equality Act becomes federal law, it will have consequences for all of us—including you and your family.

You can help fight—and WIN—the legal battles ahead!

While the U.S. Supreme Court did not deliver the victory we hoped for in Harris Funeral Homes, we know that God is in control. And we’re praying that He will move in the hearts of people like you to see what is at stake and commit to the battle to protect our First Amendment freedoms and to defend truth.

This case is the perfect example of why we must continue to stand up when our freedoms are threatened. And what can happen when the government is given the power to punish people of faith.

That’s why your help is today so critical, John. ADF needs the resources to challenge the damaging effects this U.S. Supreme Court decision could have on your brothers and sisters in Christ.

As Christians, we are called to shield and safeguard the freedom to live out one’s faith. We are called to defend truth.

So please don’t wait. Your tax-deductible gift is urgently needed to defend our most cherished First Amendment freedoms in cases across the country.
