The holiday season evokes a range of thoughts, feelings, and challenges for many people. Everyone’s experience of the holidays is different. For some, it’s a joyous occasion to be with family and friends; for others, it may be a time of year that prompts strong or difficult memories. You may have events that bring you into contact with people you have complex relationships with. Some prefer to be social, while others like to be solitary. What we want and need from the holidays can change from year to year. The important thing, especially when it comes to mental health, is to be as kind to ourselves as we are encouraged to be with others.
AFSP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier recently sat down for a conversation with Audacy, Inc., about managing your mental health during the holiday season. You can listen to the conversation here.
In addition, AFSP’s Senior Vice President of Research, Dr. Jill Harkavy-Friedman, shared her own tips on how to navigate this time of year in an article for AFSP’s Real Stories blog, entitled “Creating a Hopeful Holiday Season: A Recipe for Managing Mental Health.” Read how you can mix your own ingredients for making your holiday experience pleasant here.
No matter how you decide to spend your time over the next couple of weeks, we wish you the best: this holiday season, and always.
Warmly,
Your friends at AFSP
